Met Geo Info, a new company of the Met Consultancy Group (formerly known as Met Surveys Ltd), based in Leeds (UK) has acquired the Austrian company GeoDATA IT GmbH, a leading provider of integrated measurement, project simulation and geographical information applications. GeoDATA IT will be familiar to everyone charged with managing value in 3D urban data, as the founders and developers of the innovative software CityGRID - www.citygrid.at.
Met Geo Info saw in CityGRID a perfect opportunity to expand further in continental Europe, adding a complementary business to its wide range of expertise. With almost two decades’ experience, Met Surveys Ltd has grown from a regional provider of topographical surveys to become a recognised UK leader in land and measured building surveys, geophysical investigations, civil and structural engineering and environmental assessments and consulting. To complement Met Geo Info, the Met Consultancy Group, comprises:
• Met Surveys: with a vast range of experience in the surveying industry, it is a leader in topographical and measured building surveys, specialising in digital data capture, 360° laser scanning, the utilisation of infrared, laser and GPS technologies for sophisticated data acquisition and integration.
• Met Consulting Engineers: a civil, structural, highways and transportation engineering consultancy providing a broad range of services to clients in both the public and private sectors.
• Met Geo Environmental: a provider of focussed, high quality geophysical surveys and non-intrusive investigations, providing valuable solutions to a wide scope of engineering and environmental challenges.
MET GEO INFO’s Managing Director, Stephen Rixon commented: “We are delighted with this acquisition; with it we inherit a world class team whose innovative solutions have proven to be both increasing in demand and executable in the real world.
CityGRID has, for a number of years, been at the forefront of the cost effective approach to creating and managing urban environments using digital 3D models. Population pressure, urban migration, rising energy costs and scarcity of resources are placing increasing pressure on sustainable design. As surveyors we have the professional opportunity to contribute, but are of course in the midst of change; authorities have to integrate physical change with the delivery of social, environmental and economical benefits and with our experienced project solutions we facilitate this crucial alliance between key stakeholders and the drivers for urban development”
CityGRID has been used to develop 3D city models for a wide range of clients across Europe, for example:
Dr. Dorffner, Head of City Modelling Group Department MA41 in Vienna (Austria) said: “The primary purpose of the Vienna 3D city model was to raise the level of quality of urban planning – we were supported by CityGRID in an optimal way to this end” .
M.S.C. Koren, City of Klagenfurt (Austria) - Head of Geomatics Department, said: “because of CityGRID’s clear and convincing concept of the data model, and it’s close compatibility with our corporate GIS, the digital city model provides distinct additional value to the GIS data.”
