Merrick Offices Win Alfred P. Sloan Award

Aurora, Colorado – October 28, 2009 – Five of Merrick & Company’s offices were recently awarded the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility. The offices, which were each recognized on their own merit, are located in Aurora, Colorado; Atlanta/Duluth, Georgia; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Oak Ridge, Tennessee; and Los Alamos, New Mexico. The awards were given to individual offices of companies which exemplify a great workplace environment. Each company office is evaluated on its own merit and receives its own individual award.

The Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility are part of When Work Works, a national project on workplace effectiveness and workplace flexibility from the Families and Work Institute in partnership with The Institute for a Competitive Workforce, an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the Twiga Foundation.

Applications for the awards are evaluated in a two-step process that measures an employer’s workplace flexibility programs, policies, and culture against national data from the Families and Work Institute’s National Study of Employers National Study of Employers [pdf]. The applications are then validated with employee input. The employers that rank in the top 20% of employers when compared to these national norms are selected as finalists. The selection of the final winners is based on a score that combines employer and employee responses.

Merrick & Company is an $85 million engineering, architecture, design-build, surveying, and geospatial solutions firm serving local, regional, national, and international clients in the markets of energy, security, life sciences, and infrastructure.
