Mentor Engineering Introduces New Fleet Monitoring

Calgary, AB – January 6, 2010 - Mentor Engineering announces the release of Mentor Fleet Monitor. Mentor has created a comprehensive service that provides enhanced vehicle monitoring capabilities at a competitive price point.

Vehicles that speed or idle unnecessarily can drive up operating costs. A United States Environmental Protection Agency study reported that trucks left idling for long periods of time waste approximately 960 million gallons of diesel fuel each year. According to the United States Department of Transportation (DOT), an average truck burns 0.9 gallons of fuel per hour idling. This translates into a significant amount of money being wasted in fuel costs.

By tracking and controlling driver speed behavior, a company can reduce accidents by a significant percentage. According to Automotive Fleet Magazine, an accident reduction of only 5% for a 50-vehicle fleet amounts to almost 3 fewer accidents each year. The total savings available is between $18,000 and $36,000 annually.

Mentor Fleet Monitor tracks the unnecessary idling and excessive speed of fleet vehicles to help minimize operating costs. When a speed or idling event occurs, the data is sent from the in-vehicle mobile computer to a server, hosted by Mentor, where speed and idling reports are created for the client. Using this information, clients can identify at-risk drivers and develop training programs to encourage safer driving practices, and reduce fuel costs.

With Mentor's fleet monitoring service, clients can customize the speed and idling reports desired for each vehicle in their fleet. After choosing which reports they want, and how often they want them generated, the client receives the reports automatically via email and can view the precise location of each speed or idling event on a satellite map for an additional layer of tracking accuracy and context.
