MWH Soft Releases CapPlan Sewer ver 4

Broomfield, Colorado USA, October 7, 2009 – MWH Soft, the leading global provider of environmental and water resources applications software, today announced the worldwide availability of the V4 generation of its industry-leading CapPlan Sewer product line. This feature-packed release adds significant functionality, giving users more options for calculating likelihood and consequence of failure, stronger tools for CCTV video analysis and scheduling, and streamlined workflows for complex rehabilitation planning.

Many of the world’s wastewater collection systems are reaching or have exceeded their design lives and urgently need extensive upgrading through rehabilitation, repair, and/or replacement. As aging systems deteriorate, they become increasingly vulnerable to structural failures and are plagued by excessive leaks, drops in carrying capacity, poor water quality, and service disruptions. Age-related infrastructure failures are often unexpected and catastrophic, resulting in significant service disruptions, flooding, and local area damage. The only financially responsible solution is to create well-engineered, risk-based capital improvement plans. Since 2007, MWH Soft’s CapPlan product line, CapPlan Sewer and CapPlan Water, has been the leading software choice of utilities faced with creating such plans.

CapPlan Sewer allows utilities to plan system improvements by scoring both the probability and consequence of failure for each underground asset. Probability of failure is determined based on the pipe’s physical condition and location as well as its hydraulic performance characteristics. Consequence of failure ranking draws on data such as service to critical facilities, total flow carried, population served, adjacent vehicular traffic, and other related geospatial factors. Assets that affect system operation normally rate high on the consequence scale, while assets in poor condition have a high probability of failure.

Able to run on the ArcGIS-based InfoWater or stand-alone H2OMAP platform, CapPlan Sewer tackles the toughest data integrity and processing issues that slow typical large-scale asset management analysis projects. Leveraging the unique CapPlan Sewer architecture, users can seamlessly work between hydraulic modeling calculations and traditional GIS data to determine probability and consequence scores without cumbersome, error-prone exports and data synching to other applications. CapPlan Sewer also gives engineers the unique ability to directly view CCTV defect data and video footage, eliminating the need for specialized third-party viewing software.

Key new features in V4 include: new calculation methods for the consequence and likelihood of failure calculations, additional integration to hydraulic modeling results, new statistical classification methods for failure calculations, additional risk calculation methods, more granular budget-driven rehabilitation planning options, updated workflows to better support utilities with no or little CCTV data, and dozens of new and enhanced reports.

“A strong asset management and capital planning strategy is critical for any wastewater utility,” said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D, Hon.D.WRE, President and COO of MWH Soft. “This newest version of CapPlan Sewer is a prime example of our company’s steadfast commitment to breakthrough innovation and end-to-end engineering solutions. It delivers the advanced functionality engineers need to strengthen and optimize their infrastructures and keep them operating efficiently well into the future. This release also sustains MWH Soft’s reputation for continuous product evolution and a steadfast commitment to meeting the ever-changing needs of our industry. These are traits our customers count on to help make them the best-run utilities in the world.”
