Richmond, B.C. – MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today it has mobilized its resources to support increased information needs in the wake of the oil spill in the Gulf Coast. Using its constellation of RADARSAT satellites, and specialized analysts, MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. is providing an operational multi-source maritime surveillance service, which produces reliable and timely information, with frequent global coverage independent of darkness or inclement weather. When events of the magnitude experienced in the Gulf Coast occurs, there is an urgent need to identify scope and direction of an oil spill. The RADARSAT constellation of satellites are the world’s most advanced commercial C-band Synthetic Aperture Radar satellite, the Company is able to offer imaging capabilities with a fast turn-around schedule for data acquisition and product delivery. It provides enhanced information for applications such as environmental monitoring, ice mapping, resource mapping, disaster management, and global maritime monitoring. RADARSAT-2’s ability to collect imagery independent of darkness or inclement atmospheric conditions is a valuable support during times of emergency to supplement airborne and ground resources for local and regional damage assessment.

Please check the MDA website at the link below for imagery of the analyst interpretation of the oil spill extent in the Gulf Coast.
