15th April 2009 - Maps@, the new name in dynamic licence and map data solutions, generated significant attention from the geospatial world at its launch at the Geo09 exhibition. The new software solution generated a great deal of interest amongst delegates and exhibitors alike and requests for follow up meetings have already been received from several significant potential customers.
Jason Jones, Sales Manager for Maps@ said “We were delighted with success of the launch and have been very pleased with the number and quality of the enquiries we have had. We always knew that we had something special with Maps@ as we believe there is no other commercially available solution which addresses the complexities of spatial data licensing in this way. However, the response we have had has definitely exceeded our expectations and bodes very well for the future.”
Many organisations have struggled with the task of managing multiple geospatial data sets and the complex licensing that goes with them. Similarly, many data providers want to protect their IPR and minimise copyright infringements. Maps@ is a new software solution which simplifies and automates this process, leaving the data user free to get on with what they do best and reassuring the provider that their data is being used within their licence terms.
Maps@ answers the problems of geospatial data and licence management by utilising ground‐breaking technology. This pioneering software has an advanced 'Licence Logic' module at its core, which it combines with leading‐edge data management functionality and the very latest in web‐enabled technology. The net result is a solution that vastly simplifies the process of managing, storing, displaying and serving geospatial data. All of this will be achieved within the terms of the different data providers’ licences, thus giving security of use and significant savings in time and cost.
In the creation of Maps@, the very latest in geospatial and internet protocols were utilised, such as OGC (WMF/WFS) standards. This means that Maps@ is flexible, easy to use and able to interface with many different proprietary GIS and CAD installations. The key licence management functionality of Maps@ means that it can minimise the risk of data being incorrectly used under the terms of the suppliers’ licences, thus alleviating the risk of IPR infringement and simplifying one of the most complex problems facing the GIS professional today.
Jason Jones said “Being GIS professionals ourselves, we know how complex data licensing can be and how beneficial, in terms of time and cost, utilising an automated solution will be to many organisations round the world. By using Maps@ you can hold and maintain one single geospatial database, ensuring consistency, accuracy and currency across all projects. Maps@ will then automatically assign only the permitted layers and areas of that GI data in accordance with the licence terms for the particular project or customer, and serve it to wherever it is needed via the dedicated web portal.”
Jason concluded “We are very proud of our new solution and this initial response means that we potentially have a great future, not just in the Geospatial word, but in other sectors where data licence management is vital.”
