Forward thinking survey company first to invest in the latest 3D Laser Scanning technology.
I read somewhere that innovation is the best ticket out of this recession. “I believe this is true and I’m not talking about just service improvement. I’m talking about new services, business processes, and means of communication and methods of collaboration. The heart of innovation, of course, is people working together enthusiastically, intelligently and productively. Innovation is all about good teamwork.” Says Jim Loy, who leads a team of measurement specialists based in Glasgow, Scotland
Chartered Land Surveyors, Loy Surveys are convinced that surveying is about to enter a new era with ground breaking scanning technology which will be just as significant as computer aided surveying, robotic survey instruments and global positioning equipment. This significant development is the fourth quantum leap in my surveying career and from experience it will be those who can adopt and adapt quickly that will gain all the benefits.
Loy Surveys have placed an order with Leica Geosystems for a ScanStation C10, next generation 3D laser scanner, and associated Cyclone software. Leica Geosystems, world leaders in scanning equipment to the surveying market, have sold 3,000 high definition scanners worldwide which includes over 130 in the UK since acquiring the technology from Cyra Technologies in 2001.
Scanning technology is now fast, accurate with an effective surveying range. These advances together with integral high resolution camera, on-board batteries, internal memory, touch screen display, dual axis compensation and full dome field of view gives Loy Surveys an all-in-one scanning solution which is both versatile and productive.
“It was always going to be essential that we purchase, it was just a question of when. To date we have sub contracted scanning while the market developed, the technology matured and the cost came down. By going with Leica Geosystems we have the comfort of being part of an established community of scanning users. This landmark purchase will immediately place us in a leading position with the very latest scanning technology”
“Importantly the customer can access rapid 3D laser scanning measurement data and digital imagery over the internet as if they were on location. That’s not all, with the use of free plug in software the user is able to record accurate measurements, significantly reducing the project life cycle”
Looks like interesting times ahead for Loy’s specialist team of surveyors who have undertaken commissions in places as far afield as Africa and the Falkland Islands

Adopting Cloud computing can save money, but good governance is essential to manage the risk argues Mike Small
