Longcheer and u-blox GPS-enabled mobile phones

Thalwil, Switzerland – November 18, 2008 – u-blox today announced that Longcheer Holdings Limited (“Longcheer”), a leading Chinese mobile phone design house, has entered into cooperation with u-blox to bring innovative GPS-enabled mobile phones to the market. Longcheer will integrate u-blox’ single chip UBX-G5010 into a series of handsets, enabling consumers to quickly locate and find any point while on the go. The models G600, G800 and G630 have just become available while the G801 and G900 are expected to begin shipments to the Chinese market in Q4 2008.

The new phones combine a great set of features ranging from 1.3M/2M pixel camera, MP3 music /MP4 video movie player, 2.8 inch touch screen, internet browser and ultra long standby time. By integrating u-blox’ high performance GPS solution into the phones, consumers additionally benefit from GPS navigating and locating features. Within a few seconds, they are able to obtain their exact location and where they want to go - across all environments, even in dense urban areas and indoors.

“Handset manufacturers and consumers are increasingly demanding high performance GPS navigation on mainstream mobile phones. In u-blox, we have found the best GPS solution provider to facilitate unmatched performance and accurate GPS navigation with these phones,” said Dr. Du Junhong, CEO of Longcheer. “Their technology and customer support give us the freedom to provide superior overall performance with a small bill of material, which are key concerns for handset manufacturers in order to bring products to market faster and at lower cost.”

“With the tremendous market growth taking place for GPS-enabled mobile phones, we are proud that a leading mobile handset design house is choosing our GPS solution for their mobile phones,” said Adrian Tan, General Manager Asia, u-blox. "We have worked closely with Longcheer since 2007 and look forward to working together in the future to achieve our goal of bringing the benefits of location technology to the next-generation of mobile devices.”

For a live demonstration of the G800 and G600 handsets, please visit u-blox' at the Mobile Asia Congress, 18-20 November, at booth C35, Hall D & E.
