Location Business Summit USA conference

MTV, Ogilvy, Yahoo, Nokia, AT&T are set to meet in California to discuss the future of Location Based Services.

The Location Business Summit USA conference takes place at the Crowne Plaza in San Jose, California on September 14th – 15th.

The potential of this industry had been touted for a long time, but industry predictions are now being achieved and companies are beginning to make real gains in the LBS space.

With ABI Research forecasting 82 million worldwide subscribers of location-based mobile social networks by 2013, there is undoubtedly a clear market; however, it is still not clear where real profits will be secured.

Nonetheless, companies are excited by the prospect of monetisation opportunities and believe the time is right to forge new strategies for the future.

Michael Becker, Managing Director of the MMA North America, who will be speaking at The Location Business Summit USA conference, recognises this: “2010 is an exciting year for the LBS industry – the market is adding more and more devices that are enabling location and creating a unique experience for the consumer.”

Michael will be joined by other key executives from MTV Networks, Ogilvy, Yahoo, Nokia, AT&T Interactive, Socialight, Brightkite, SCVNGR, Layar, Bloomberg, and Booyah. These companies will debate and discuss local search, location-based advertising, content and data, platform fragmentation and other key opportunities for monetisation.

The potential of this industry had been touted for a long time, but industry predictions are now being achieved and companies are beginning to make real gains in the LBS space.

Rob Lawson, Vice President of Marketing at Brightkite, agrees: “The previous barriers of carrier charges for location data and low addressable market size are fast disappearing. It’s exciting!”

Tina Whitfield, CEO of EquisGlobal, points out that “Consumer expectations have collided with developer imaginations. The result is a streamlining of products and services that will hit the market. There will be less junk and more value.”

Tony Jebara, chief scientist at Sense Networks, comments: “There are still many hurdles for the LBS industry – most notably how to secure a consistent profit.”

This vital topic is the focus of The Location Business Summit USA taking place on September 14th – 15th at the Crowne Plaza in San Jose.

Bringing together carriers, brands, advertising agencies, platform providers, LBS solution providers, device manufacturers and content providers, the entire ecosystem is set to gather in San Jose, at The Location Business Summit USA conference; the USA’s largest mobile LBS conference.
