Leica Geosystems Geospatial Releases ER Viewer 7.2

Norcross, GA - Leica Geosystems Geospatial Imaging announces the release of ER Viewer 7.2. Previously an ER Mapper product, ER Viewer is a free, easy-to-use image viewer featuring interactive roaming and zooming of very large JPEG 2000 and ECW files, as well as the ability to read most other common file types. Additionally, ER Viewer 7.2 also provides the ability to save and print data. The save feature allows users to stream data from a site and save a subset locally.

Already containing a number of intuitive features, including the ability to embed large geospatial images into Microsoft Word documents, ER Viewer 7.2 builds on the product’s key functionalities. ER Viewer 7.2 includes support for Microsoft Vista and an ECWP application protocol. With this new protocol, users may open an ECWP URL in ER Viewer from links in Microsoft Word or Internet Explorer.

“A free application, ER Viewer supports the use of geospatial information in a number of important business processes,” said Mladen Stojic, Senior Vice President, Product Management and Marketing, Leica Geosystems Geospatial Imaging. “Building off ER Viewer’s ability to quickly view images in numerous formats, the additional support of Microsoft Vista and an ECWP application protocol increases this solution’s interoperable capabilities.”

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

What message are we sending to senior level decision makers about the importance and value of Spatial Data Infrastructure - SDI - if we keep misrepresenting what SDI is or is all about?

In previous editorials in this magazine I have touched on various SDI issues, especially now that the pan-European SDI has achieved a legally mandated status within the European Union's 27 Member States. Yet I fear that the Geographic Information community - or communities, for there are many - continue to… More…
