New Delhi 29 May 2009 : NIIT GIS Ltd. (ESRI India) has effected a smooth succession to its leadership – Rajesh Mathur, who served as President and COO for past 14 years, made way for Mukund Rao – who took over as President and COO of ESRI India, effective April 6, 2009. Rajesh now moves on to a new role of Head – Government Practice at NIIT Technologies Ltd. after handing the baton over to Mukund. The succession and transition of leadership was a process that started with the induction of Mukund Rao into the ESRI India team in August, 2008 and who was made responsible for managing and developing the product and solutions business of ESRI India.
Rajesh Mathur had a successful stint with NIIT-GIS (ESRI INDIA) and has served in the vanguard role for past 14 years – building and positioning NIIT-GIS (ESRI INDIA) on a firm footing. An alumini of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Rajesh has been an astute leader in GIS. He has been instrumental in building the business of GIS in NIIT and successfully positioning ESRI technology as the most commonly used GIS technology in India. Over the past years, Rajesh also developed the GIS Solutions business and has been responsible of making ESRI India proficient in product sales and solutions offerings. Rajesh is well respected and well-known in the GIS world and feels “satisfied at a good job done … but miles to go”. Rajesh will continue to mentor ESRI India and will also take on new responsibilities to spear head NIIT business activities in the Government Sector, as Head – Government Practice. In this role he would be responsible for NTL activity in this sector.
Mukund Rao joined the top management of NIIT GIS (ESRI India) in end-August, 2008 and for the past 7 months has driven the business of ESRI India – both from technology and solutions perspective. Mukund graduated in Geology and after his Masters in Geology completed his Masters in Philosophy in Remote Sensing and GIS. He has also been awarded Doctorate in Remote Sensing and GIS from Andhra University. Mukund has over 28 years of experience – mainly in Remote Sensing and GIS technology and business in his stint of 25 years with ISRO. Mukund has been responsible for many national and international initiatives in GIS and SDI and has contributed in a major way to SDI architecturing and developing GIS Applications for the benefit of society. He has been and avid user of ESRI products from 1984 onwards and has led many innovative RS and GIS applications. Mukund has also been active in the international arena – he was President of GSDI Association; associated with ISPRS; Vice-President of IAF and Member of IAA forums. Mukund believes that “the future of GIS is in good solutions that bring value and knowledge to government, private enterprises and to society” and “when we have the best of GIS technology, ESRI products, there is nothing to stop us” and envisages to further grow the capabilities and business of NIIT-GIS (ESRI India).
NIIT-GIS (ESRI India) has also been re-structured to give its internal members more responsibility and challenging growth. The young and dynamic team, organized into Sales and Marketing Group; Technical Services Group and specific Practices, is all geared up to meet the growing demand for GIS products and solutions.
