Landgate, Western Australia’s Land Information Authority launched its award winning online system, the Shared Land Information Platform (SLIP), to the WA business community today.
Acting Chief Executive Mike Bradford said the SLIP Enabler used internet technology for linking agency systems to create a single, online access point to real-time land and geographic information, currently held by various State Government agencies.
“The objectives of SLIP are to simplify access to this valuable land and geographic information, improve the efficiency of government business decision-making; promote better integration across government; and facilitate the development of new applications to meet changing requirements of business and the community,” Mr Bradford said.
“SLIP took out the major award at the Western Australian Spatial Excellence Awards earlier this year. It is unique in that it delivers real-time access to government spatial information 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are talking cutting-edge technology here, one that is rapidly becoming known and sought after throughout the world.”
Mr Bradford said SLIP had been tried and tested over the past 12 months following its launch to government agencies in August 2007.
“The challenges of implementing a cross-government program have driven a new way of working that is unprecedented, “ Mr Bradford said.
“The launch of SLIP Enabler to the business community today not only provides an opportunity for industry to access Government information, but also launches a platform for industry to deliver services to its customers, offering them the ability to make better decisions.
“In the past it could take companies up to 10 days to receive information from a government agency while now they can gain instant access.
“The information is presented in a cost effective and efficient way which would otherwise cost these customers significant amounts of money.”
Mr Bradford said Landgate was seeking to develop partnerships with companies possessing spatial expertise.
“The SLIP Developer Partner Program provides a level of support and service that will help developers create business solutions for their clients,” Mr Bradford said.
“The Program is testament to the fact that successful public/private sector partnerships can be achieved on a regular basis.”
“Just the fact that business can now access land and geographic information through a much simpler and shorter process leads to improved efficiency and effectiveness all round.”
SLIP Enabler is one of the largest cross-government technology initiatives undertaken in Australia and the only one of its kind in Western Australia.
SLIP Enabler infrastructure is built on a hybrid warehouse and distributed data model. Key agencies with dynamic datasets have SLIP Enabler infrastructure installed onsite directly ‘pulling’ data from internal dissemination services. The on-site server acts as a virtual private network (VPN) end-point, transferring agency spatial data securely from the live, authoritative source back to SLIP Enabler core service applications.
