Korean astronaut Dr. Yi So-yeon at Map Middle East

New Delhi, India, April 2, 2009 - GIS Development , the organiser of Map Middle East 2009, is pleased to announce that South Korea’ s first ast ronaut Dr. Yi So-yeon has agreed to at tend and deliver a Special Address at Map Middle East 2009, the 5th Annual Middle East Conference & Exhibit ion on Geospat ial Informat ion, Technology and Applicat ions. The upcoming conference – scheduled for April 26 - 28, 2009 at Abu Dhabi Nat ional Exhibit ion Center –will address various issues related to the theme “Geospat ial @Work”. At the conference will be highlighted the latest t rends in the geospat ial technology and the applicat ions and ut ilit ies of geospat ial information in different fields will also be showcased.

Sanj ay Kumar, the Chief Execut ive Officer of GISDevelopment said, “ It is a mat ter of pride for us to have an exalted personality like Dr. Yi So-yeon at the Map Middle East . Her presence would generate more interest in remote sensing and space science in this region. This year’ s Map Middle East will include high-profile guest addresses and plenary speeches addressing the issues of importance and usage of geospat ial technology and the way it has improved the efficiency and effect iveness in terms of work processes and delivery outputs at various enterprise levels. About Dr. Yi So-yeon

Dr. Yi So-yeon (born June 2, 1978) is a South Korean scient ist and Ph.D. graduate of KAIST (Korea Advanced Inst itute of Science and Technology). On April 8, 2008, she became the first Korean and the second Asian woman to fly in space, after Chiaki Mukai of Japan.
