JLT set benchmark for mobile mapping and surveying

Runcorn, UK, 27 May 2008 - Mobile computing innovator JLT has set the standard for rugged PCs with its latest tablet PC - the JLT8404. Featuring a host of benchmarking features, including an extremely strong aircraft grade aluminium chassis and 8.4-inch colour touchscreen viewable in sunlight. Offering integrated wireless communications - Bluetooth, WLAN, 3G/GPRS, highly accurate GPS, a choice of powerful processors and familiar Windows operating system, the MIL STD 810F rated device provides a future-proof investment for demanding mobile applications.

With the JLT8404 the company offers one of the most rugged tablet PCs available on the market today. Specifically designed without moving and external parts and subjected to severest tests - water and dust ingress to IP65, drop tests to 1.2 metres and extreme temperatures ranging from -20C to +50C - the device will provide years of trouble-free life.

The computer's innovative SunView Screen has been developed to provide the best user experience for mapping and data entry in all lighting conditions, both indoors and in bright sunshine. Coupled with this is a new touch-screen that has advanced features including palm rejection, and offers great accuracy without the need of a digitiser and active stylus.

The JLT8404 is suited to a wide range of applications in asset mapping, safety inspections, service maintenance and other field-based work such as surveying. The device can also be used for in-vehicle applications using an optional in-cab docking station, which also provides additional connectivity options. For automatic identification / data capture, customers can use any Bluetooth barcode, chip card or RFID reader. In addition, the hot swappable battery allows extended periods of operation and a choice of rugged hard disk or flash disk provide secure data storage capabilities.

JLT also offers a comprehensive range of accessories designed to complement the rugged device including mounting systems and keyboards.
