Vancouver, BC, CANADA, June 19, 2009 - Galdos Systems and GITA, organizers of GeoWeb 2009, today announce the full roster of speakers for this year's conference to be held July 27-31, 2009 in Vancouver, BC. With the theme CityScapes, international leaders in GIS, infrastructure technologies and the Internet will grapple with the increasing infrastructure, environmental and energy issues we face as half of the world's population (3.2 billion) now live in cities and that figure is expected to grow to 70 percent by 2050*.
GeoWeb 2009's conference line-up features some of the world's leaders in geospatial technologies as follows:
Keynote Speakers
* Michael T. Jones, chief technology advocate, Google Earth.
* Alex Miller, founder and president, ESRI Canada Ltd.
Invited Speakers
* Dr. John Stutz, founder, the Tellus Institute.
* David Boloker, CTO for Emerging Internet Technologies in IBM Software Group
* Ken Greenberg, Architect and Urban Designer,Greenberg Consultants Inc.
For the first time, GeoWeb 2009 will also feature two panels - a business panel and an architecture panel.
Business Panel
This panel will discuss the impact new applications, the availability and accessibility of data, and the GeoWeb infrastructure on the ability to solve such pressing business problems as finding new customers, increasing productivity, better financial management, developing better products, becoming more competitive, developing more efficient and safer operations, increasing speed to market, and improving internal and external communications.
Architecture Panel
The Architecture Panel will look at the merits of different architecture types or styles in building the GeoWeb. The GeoWeb is more than virtual globes and provides information infrastructures that support collaboration and information sharing between government, the private sector and citizens. This covers a wide range of applications and a wide range of data types - from real time sensor data (e.g. in situ) to remotely sensed imagery, lidar, conventional vector "GIS" features and 3D models of buildings or other infrastructure.
Student Contest
GeoWeb 2009 is reinstating the student contest and entrants can view the contest details at students & academia page. The winners will have all conference and travel expenses paid for as well as receive a cash honorarium and have the opportunity to present their work at GeoWeb 2009.
Academic Track
GeoWeb 2009 has for the first time added a special Academic Track this year. This track will feature refereed academic papers and published proceedings, but will otherwise be integrated into the GeoWeb conference.
