Intermap Technologies and JBA Consulting Partners

DENVER & LONDON (May 26, 2010) Intermap Technologies, a worldwide 3D digital mapping and geospatial solutions company, and JBA Consulting, a leading European flood risk and environmental management firm, today announced a strategic collaboration to provide detailed flood mapping services for clients across Continental Europe. The provision of Intermap’s NEXTMap Europe digital elevation map data, along with the digital elevation models Intermap produced for the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) initiative, will allow JBA’s risk management division to conduct accurate, current, and consistent cross-border flood assessments throughout Europe.

Intermap will deliver elevation data to JBA to enable high-accuracy modelling of different types of flood risk, including river, surface water, sea surge, and reservoir failure. The resulting flood risk assessments will be created using JBA’s scientifically acclaimed 2D hydraulic modeling JFLOW-GPU software and will enable clients to access an unprecedented quality of flood risk management solutions in Europe.

"The joining of our superior terrain data with JBA’s innovative flood modeling software,” stated Manfred Krischke, Intermap’s vice president of risk management, “is a win-win situation for government entities, the insurance industry, and other customers alike. Being able to accurately assess flood risks across Europe will not only help predict the likelihood of damage to property and the threat to livelihood, it can potentially help guide protection measures that can reduce the terrible impact of catastrophic flooding throughout the region.”

“Use of Intermap’s NEXTMap dataset gives us the ability to generate flood models that are not compromised by the quality of the underlying digital terrain data,” commented Jane Toothill, JBA’s head of catastrophe analysis. “This collaboration will allow us to set a new standard for the quality of flood models in Europe and enable our clients to access the information they need to implement improved risk management practice at all scales from single site to multi-national.”
