Geospatial Today, in association with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) released the Indian Geospatial Industry Market Report 2009. The report was released by Union Minister of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences Shri Prithviraj Chavan. The launch coincided with the two day conference on Geospatial Technologies for Utilities and Infrastructure held at FICCI Hall.
This is the third edition of the report on Indian geospatial industry. To present the facts in a scientific and systematic way, Geospatial Today tied up with IMRB, a market research company to carry out the Geospatial Industry Survey 2009.
The Survey is an attempt to gauge the health of the geospatial industry in India. It identifies the basic components of geospatial industry - data, software, hardware and services, analyses the worth of each segment and projects the growth in each. The survey pegs the worth of overall geospatial market in India in 2008-09 at Rs 8389 million an increase by Rs 1,559 million over 2006-07. The imagery data market was close to 550 million. The size of the GIS software market was close to 650 million in 2008-09. The hardware market saw flat growth and grew by 9 % since 2006-07. The services market holds the lions share in the GIS market. The size of this segment stood at Rs 4,680 mn in 2008-09 and grew at a rate of 16 per cent CAGR since 2006-07.
The report says that geospatial market is expected to grow to Rs 24,070 million by 2012-13, growing at a CAGR of 33 per cent.
