ISRSE-33 Conference, Italy, 4-8 May

33rd International conference on Remote Sensing of Environment (ISRSE-33)

Sustaining the Millennium Development Goals

Palazzo dei Congressi
Stresa, Lago Maggiore, Italy
May 4-8 2009

Jointly organised by the International Center for Remote Sensing of Environment (ICRSE, USA) and the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) Poverty reduction, agricultural production, food security, integrated management of water, forest and land resources, protection of biodiversity, control of migration, urbanisation, land degradation and the mitigation of climate change's impact on our lives are all pressing contemporary issues which are inextricably linked, both in developed and developing countries.

These are global challenges that each requires a global response. It is with these challenges in mind that scientists, system engineers, policy-makers and industry representatives from all over the world will gather at the 33rd
International Conference on Remote Sensing of Environment, to explore how Science and Technology can contribute to sustainable development. The use of Earth Observation systems and airborne techniques for better
understanding and management of the environment and natural resources will be the central focus of the conference.

The Symposium offers a platform for presenting and discussing new remote sensing programmes in many countries of the world, with applications in Africa the focus of dedicated sessions. The latest developments in the setting up of interoperable Earth Observation and Spatial Data Infrastructures through international arrangements are also included in the programme. Presentations and discussions will also address efforts at European level towards the implementation of the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) initiative, which was conceived nearby on the Lago Maggiore some ten years ago.

An exhibition area will feature institutional activities, commercial programmes and technical achievements. An outdoor demonstration of Unmanned Airborne Vehicle
(UAV) capabilities for civilian remote sensing is also foreseen.

The full programme can be found at the web site below.

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

Adopting Cloud computing can save money, but good governance is essential to manage the risk argues Mike Small
