GeoInformation Group Cities Revealed Thermal Maps

8 August 2007: Cambridge – The GeoInformation® Group, publishers of Cities Revealed aerial photography (www.citiesrevealed.com), announces today that it now offers a new Thermal Mapping solution as part of its geographic information and aerial imagery portfolio. Thermal Mapping is a powerful, value-added spatial information tool for the analysis of energy loss from buildings, ground features and even objects below the ground.

Thermal Mapping is created by recording temperature differences, using the latest thermal imaging camera, to produce an image that quantifies thermal variation. Within the image there are millions of data points, Thermal Mapping simplifies the interpretation of this data by presenting it in a more easily understood form. Cities Revealed integrates this data with OS MasterMap™ and each building in the map is assigned a heat loss value, using a five level classification system. By reducing data interpretation time clients are able to start examining and analysing relative heat loss very quickly.

Thermal Mapping makes it very easy to monitor and compare heat loss from properties, associate heat loss with addresses and develop energy conservation programmes. This powerful mapping tool can be used for rural and urban areas and has enormous value within both the public and commercial sectors. There is a requirement to monitor heat loss in accordance with the Home Energy Conservation Act 1995 (HECA), for which Thermal Mapping is ideally suited and it can also be used to measure heat loss within industrial complexes to support carbon offset programmes.

Thermal Mapping integrates with the Cities Revealed portfolio including Land Use, Building Class and Building Heights data to provide a more comprehensive picture of the world.

As a leading supplier of geographic information the company continues to provide an extensive and highly successful product portfolio under the Cities Revealed brand, including: Modern, Historic and Near Infrared aerial imagery, LiDAR data, Oblique imagery solutions, and value-added aerial imagery derived databases: Land Use, Building Class and Building Heights.
