SAN DIEGO, CA - July 14, 2010 - GeoFields, Inc., a global leader in asset data management and integrity management solutions for the oil and gas pipeline industry, today announced that Saudi Aramco and GeoFields were jointly presented the ESRI Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) award recognizing vision, leadership and innovative use of GIS technology.
ESRI chose GeoFields and Saudi Aramco to receive the award from more than 300,000 organizations worldwide. Both organizations were honored at the ESRI International User Conference in San Diego, California, on July
14, 2010.
ESRI, the world leader in GIS software, presents the SAG award to recognize organizations around the world that make extraordinary use of GIS technology and set new precedents for the GIS community. Recipients of the award are nominated by ESRI employees from thousands of organizations worldwide, then personally reviewed and hand selected by Jack Dangermond, president of ESRI.
"We created the Special Achievement in GIS Award to recognize our users' extraordinary contributions to global society," said Jack Dangermond. "Each year, I look forward to being part of this ceremony; it's a tradition that has gained great meaning and importance for professionals in the GIS industry."
The GeoFields and Saudi Aramco team received the ESRI SAG award for their work on the Pipeline Integrity Management System (PIMS) for the Pipeline Technology and Integrity Management Unit (PT&IMU) at Saudi Aramco. The project includes data integration from multiple sources to construct a comprehensive pipeline facility database for all transmission pipeline assets, using the ArcGIS Pipeline Data Model (APDM) template. The implementation supports hundreds of end users through customized web, data management, forms and alignment sheet generation technology.
"The new system provides Saudi Aramco, the world's largest oil company with one of the industry's largest pipeline networks, with an integrated GIS that manages and integrates massive amounts of pipeline data and forms a foundation for the integrity management program," said Brad Schaaf, CEO of GeoFields. "The GeoFields and Saudi Aramco team worked together for over a year to implement the system, which supports integrity related decisions, with a goal of enhancing safety and improving reliability of the pipeline assets."
