The Canadian 2010 Federal Budget announced renewed funding for the GeoConnections program. The Budget provides CAN$11 million in funding over the next two years to continue development of the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) and to provide consolidated geographic-related information to Canadians via the Internet.
GeoConnections successfully delivered on its previous mandate to support CGDI users, while demonstrating the value of improved access to geospatial information and the benefits of interoperable standards and technologies. GeoConnections will continue to work with stakeholders to develop and promote policies and standards to support the use of geospatial information and will provide leadership and coordination in Canada.
Information about the renewed GeoConnections initiatives and activities will be available on the GeoConnections website at the link below.
GeoConnections will be attending the Canadian Geomatics Conference, June 15-18 in Calgary, where employees will make presentations and host an information booth to further explain its mandate and vision for the future. CGDI stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the conference to gain insight into the role of geomatics and learn about the renewed GeoConnections program. Visit the conference web site at the link below.
GeoConnections looks forward to continued work with CGDI stakeholders. Together, GeoConnections and CGDI stakeholders can ensure that Canada has an effective geographic foundation, through the CGDI, that enables sharing and use of geospatial information about Canada's lands, peoples and natural resources to support economic, social and environmental priorities.
