Leipzig/Venlo, 15 April 2009. GEOMAGIC have successfully teamed up with GE Energy to win an order from the Dutch pipeline company N.V. Rotterdam-Rijn Pijpleiding Maatschappij (RRP) to implement a new geographic information system (GIS).
The Smallworld Global Transmission Office* (GTO) solution from GE Energy replaces a diverse customer solution and will support the technical documentation and the operating of RRP’s 475 km pipeline network. The project will also include interfacing with other processes and systems relevant for pipeline control and maintenance. The job is split into several phases. The first phase of which includes the installation of the productive environment at RRP in September 2009.
Marc van den Heuvel, Manager Pipeline Maintenance at RRP, states: “With the introduction of this new Pipeline Management System, RRP should have an effective and efficient system to manage all integrity issues according to the Muhlbauer and NTA8000 philosophy (Plan Do Check Act) and provide the latest status of pipeline in relation to third party interference, corrosion, design and operations. To comply with the latest developments and requirements laid down in the regulations of Dutch authorities, we have to focus on safety, distances of pipelines to buildings, control and supervision of activities and we have to focus on avoiding calamities. With Geomagic we are sure we have the right partner to fulfill these requirements and can implement the Smallworld Global Transmission Office solution successfully.”
Besides Smallworld Global Transmission Office solution, two more GE applications will be implemented. One is the PipeView Integrity* software that helps manage inspection and integrity data. The other supports the Dutch KLIC-service (Cadaster and Pipeline Information Center) and integrates operative tasks and incoming messages on pipelines. KLIC is a “Call before you dig”- system that manages enquiries from construction sites centrally. All connected network and pipeline operators in the Netherlands have to react promptly. The enquiries will be processed at RRP over the new application.
GEOMAGIC will also provide LaRa, which is a web application that allows pipeline companies to manage their rights of way and regulate compensations.
RRP is the first European customer for the Smallworld Global Transmission Office solution. “We are delighted that RRP selected GE Energy’s Smallworld Office Suite, Smallworld Global Transmission Office solution is designed to meet the specific needs of operators and the demands placed upon them by regulatory agencies”, said Martin Ansell General Manager of Smallworld at GE Energy. “They are in safe hands as the Smallworld Global Transmission Office suite of applications is built on Smallworld Core Spatial Technology*, already successfully deployed in many of the worlds leading utility companies”.
