GEO-India 2008 Conference Announcement

GEO-India 2008 Conference Announcement

India’s petroleum future

Over the last few years the Indian Government has been taking steps to encourage the
increased production of hydrocarbons, both on and offshore.

Dozens of blocks have been made available right across the country and it’s clear that there is now a great deal of exploration and geoscience activity to be carried out. The short term objective will be to obtain expertise and equipment from outside the region to assist the geoscientists already in India. The long term objective is to ensure that India’s oil and gas professionals are themselves at the forefront of the latest developments to secure India’s petroleum future.

GEO India

With the full support of Mr Dinesh Kumar Pande, Director (Exploration), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd., The Association of Petroleum Geologists (APG) and the AAPG will be working together on the GEO India 2008 event. This event will cover all aspects of petroleum geoscience with a highly technical conference programme, a comprehensive workshop programme and an exhibition of international significance
showcasing latest technologies.

Conference and workshops

The GEO India 2008 conference theme is: Investing in Geoscience to Secure the Future

• The conference opening session will be held prior to the exhibition opening on 17th September in the purpose built conference facility at the EXPO XXI, Greater Nodia.

• The conference technical sessions will be held 17th - 19th September at the Expo XXI,
Greater Noida alongside the poster sessions and exhibition.

The abstracts deadline for the technical conference is: 16th February 2008

Full Abstracts Submittal Instructions at: www.geo-india.com

A number of pre/post conference short courses and workshops will be organised.

These will provide an opportunity for presentations that need considerably more time
and or field trips that cannot be accommodated in the regular conference programme.

Message from the Conference Organisers APG and AAPG are delighted to be able to announce GEO India 2008. By focusing on this event we will provide the geoscience community in India with an opportunity to meet, share knowledge and exchange ideas. The APG have in the past run their own event – APG, which focused on issues within India. AAPG have many years of experience at running events of this kind all around the world. By working together we
will be able to bring our understanding of the Indian and Global geoscience communities together for the benefit of all.

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

What message are we sending to senior level decision makers about the importance and value of Spatial Data Infrastructure - SDI - if we keep misrepresenting what SDI is or is all about?

In previous editorials in this magazine I have touched on various SDI issues, especially now that the pan-European SDI has achieved a legally mandated status within the European Union's 27 Member States. Yet I fear that the Geographic Information community - or communities, for there are many - continue to… More…
