GE Fast Track Award 2009

At the GE EMEAI Conference in Sorrento, Italy, the German IT company GEOMAGIC GmbH has received the “GE Fast Track Award 2009”. The award also goes to the Polish gas company G.EN. Gaz Energia S.A. and to the IT-partner ASTEC Sp. Z o.o., from Poland as well. The award stands for the quick and successful implementation of the Smallworld Gas Distribution Office 4.1 (GDO) and other components at the largest private gas supplier in Poland.

GDO is based on Smallworld GIS Core Spatial Technology which is developed by GE Energy. It provides gas distribution companies with a suite of integrated applications that are fundamental to geospatial management of a full natural gas delivery network.

“We have decided to implement an integrated documentation system to gather all data about our network of 2300 km. The is the basis for several business processes.” says Andrzej Gwizdala, Head of Network Information System at G.EN..

GEOMAGIC as prime contractor implemented GDO in a project together with the polish partner ASTEC. The project also included the integration of the Smallworld Internet Application Server (SIAS), a company wide information system accessed via web browser, and the mobile GIS Smallworld Field Information System (FIS). The applications have been integrated fully into the existing software infrastructure.

“Since GDO provides gas distribution companies with a suite of integrated applications that are fundamental to geospatial management, the effort for customizing was very low.” describes Sebastian Pache, project manager of GEOMAGIC.

GEOMAGIC is an IT service provider for pipeline operators in Europe. The geographic information system (GIS) Smallworld and GE Energy‘s Fachschale Pipeline constitute the technological basis for our work. We also develop solutions on Eclipse Rich Client Platform, Oracle Fusion und SAP Portal.
