French Local Administration chooses SpacEyes3D

July 16, 2007 - Due to the forthcoming Territorial Coherence Scheme application, the French local administration “le Syndicat Mixte du SCoT du Pays de Rennes” requires a 3D model of its territory that can be put online. In fact, thanks to this 3D model, they will be able to inform and guide its citizens in all their consultation.

Thus, the people working in the Syndicat Mixte, who are not numerous, and who have limited available time, would like a 3D software package that is easy to use and open. A facility such as this would enable them to integrate and use data of different GIS software. Furthermore, as the goal of this 3D model is to inform the public about the district changes and to develop the scheme interactively according to ongoing debate, they wish to have something that can be modified in accordance with their needs and to allow the simulation of land settlement.

In order to meet this exacting requirement they chose SpacEyes3D Server (allows to put online the 3D model) furnished with SpacEyes 3D Builder (allows the 3D realisation) as the most suitable package responding to their needs.

The SpacEyes3D Solution.

SpacEyes3D has been chosen because of its numerous functionalities and its ease of use.

SpacEyes3D ease of use:

- Use your existing geomatic data: no modification required
- An intuitive management: the “3D PowerPoint”
- An easy and fast interactive fly through
- An open software: you can integrate data from different GIS software

SpacEyes3D functionalities:

- You can visualize and analyze your territory
- You can simulate your settlement projects

The Result

SPACEYES’ team understood the requirements of the 3D model needed by the Syndicat Mixte du SCot du Pays de Rennes and has put it online for everybody to have access to it (you can see it on www.paysderennes.net ).
This 3D model which is now circulated on the Web covers about 1200km² and contains many information layouts and more than 500 000 3D objects (construction, vegetation etc.).

From now, the Syndicat Mixte can modify the 3D model by themselves or if they wish, use the services of SPACEYES.

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

What message are we sending to senior level decision makers about the importance and value of Spatial Data Infrastructure - SDI - if we keep misrepresenting what SDI is or is all about?

In previous editorials in this magazine I have touched on various SDI issues, especially now that the pan-European SDI has achieved a legally mandated status within the European Union's 27 Member States. Yet I fear that the Geographic Information community - or communities, for there are many - continue to… More…
