Flood Modeling and Mapping Webinar - 27 October

Webinar on Integrated 1D and 2D Flood Modeling and Mapping Using MIKE FLOOD, October 27, 2008, 3 - 4:30 pm (EST)

Traditional flood modeling techniques typically involve one dimensional, steady-state simulation predicting base flood elevations across a distinctly two-dimensional floodplain. While this approach is suitable in some situation, it does not represent the true spatial and temporal impacts of the flooding, nor does it capture the details or accuracy required by today’s standards. MIKE FLOOD is a dynamically linked one-dimensional and two-dimensional flood modeling package. The tool is assembled from components taken from two of DHI’s widely applied flood modeling software packages – MIKE 11 and MIKE 21 - and enhanced with new features and productivity tools targeted specifically towards the modeling of floods. MIKE FLOOD couples the computational efficiency of 1D river hydraulics modeling (MIKE 11) in the main river channel with the computational accuracy of 2D overland flow modeling (MIKE 21) in the floodplain. The presentation will be a combination of introductory powerpoint slides, followed by a live demonstration showing the steps required to develop and run an integrated 1D and 2D flood model.

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

A suggested new aspect for the New Generation of Digital Earth - Human behaviour and decision making

Based on harmonised methodology, survey on decision making mechanisms and identification of decision nodal points, monitoring and analysis of the socio-economic and environmental impact of power, the influence of human interest groups from local to global should be also part of the aspects in the new generation Digital Earth.
