The University of Nottingham Centre for Geospatial Sciences (CGS), Open Source Geospatial Foundation (UK chapter), ICA Commission on Maps and the Internet and Open Knowledge Foundation are organising the First Open Source GIS Conference in UK on 22 June 2009 at University of Nottingham.
The conference has very much an international focus and holistic outlook, bringing together speakers and delegates from government, academia, industry, software developers, open source communities, geospatial researchers, etc. High profile speakers from the USA, Canada and across the EU are invited to give presentations and workshops. Two 'hands on' lab sessions are also planned.
Speakers and presentations already confirmed include:
- Tyler Mitchell, Executive Director of Open Source Geospatial Foundation will deliver the keynote presentation.
- A plenary presentation from the Open Source Observatory and Repository (OSOR). OSOR.eu is a project owned and funded by the European Commission under the IDABC program. OSOR.eu actively supports the sharing of FLOSS -based eGovernment applications across Europe, connecting EU services and Member States.
- Dr David Ames (Idaho State University) has confirmed his MapWindow workshop.
- EDINA will also be running a workshop on OSGeo Software projects.
Participants are expected from all across Europe. There are plans to webcast the proceedings on the conference website.
