First Open Source GIS UK Conference – 22 June 2009

The Centre for Geospatial Science of the University of Nottingham, Open Source Geospatial Foundation (UK Chapter), ICA Working Group on Open Source Geospatial Technologies, SOSoRNET and Open Knowledge Foundation are organizing the First Open Source GIS UK Conference on Monday 22nd June, 2009 at the University of Nottingham.

The conference has a strong international focus and takes a holistic approach bringing together speakers and delegates from government, academe, industry and open source communities. High profile speakers from North America and the EU will be giving presentations and running hands-on workshops within the conference schedule.

Tyler Mitchell, the Executive Director of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation, will deliver the keynote presentation. A plenary presentation on Open Source Observatory and Repository (OSOR) will be delivered by Mr Szabolcs Szekacs (European Commission, Informatics Directorate-General, IDABC).

Contributions are invited in the following topic areas:

o State of the Art developments in Open Source GIS
o Open Source GIS in Education
o Interoperability and standards - OGC, ISO/TC 211
o Open Source GIS application use cases : Government, Participatory GIS, Location based services, Health, Energy, Water, Climate change etc
o Web processing services
o Open architectures, open content
o Case studies of open source implementations
o Open Source GIS Internationalisation and Localisation
o Using Open Source GIS with proprietary software
o Transition to Open Source GIS
o Open Source GIS business models
o Open Source GIS implementation and deployment case studies
o Hands-on workshops on using and developing open source GIS tools

Abstracts (max. 500 words) must be submitted to Suchith.Anand@nottingham.ac.uk before 15 March 2009

Abstracts will be reviewed by the members of the program committee. Speakers of accepted papers and workshop presenters will get complimentary conference registration

o Introduction to gvSIG as desktop GIS/SDI client - Alvaro Anguix (IVER Tecnologías de la Información, Spain)

o Open source tools for support across the GI data lifecycle: from creation to delivery - James Reid (EDINA) & Jo Cook (Oxford Archaeology)
