FIG Working Week 2009 is only 1 month away!

The FIG Working Week 2009 is starting only one month from now. We warmly welcome you to Israel and kindly ask you to register if you have not yet done so. This email gives you some updates on the arrangements. The FIG Working Week 2009 will take place in Eilat, a resort city at the southernmost edge of Israel, on the shores of the Red Sea. The Working Week be held on 3-8 May 2009, at the 5*deluxe Dan Eilat Hotel. We expect to host about 600 participants from all over the world.

The professional theme of the Working Week is “Surveyors Key Role in Accelerated Development”, which addresses many of the issues facing surveyors in the next years. As always, the Working Week will gather international professionals and academia members from the fields of land surveying, land and real-estate appraisal, GIS, spatial planning, environmental awareness, and civil engineering. In the technical programme we have almost 250 presentations in about 60 technical sessions, seminars and workshops.

Technical programme covers all ten FIG technical commissions (Professional Standards and Practice; Professional Education; Spatial Information Management; Hydrography; Positioning and Measurement; Engineering Surveys; Cadastre and Land Management; Spatial Planning and Development; Valuation and the Management of Real Estate; and Construction Economics and Management. A special seminar on the history of surveying and measurement will be held on Sunday 3 May 2009. When you make your registration, please book your hotel at the same. We recommend booking at the conference hotel, Dan Eilat Hotel that offers excellent value for money.

Please note: If you need a visa to enter Israel, please register as soon as possible. Because of Easter holidays there will be delays in handling the visas. Therefore please register latest on Monday 6 April and request for the invitation letter at the same time from Ortra, email: fig@ortra.com.

In the conference programme we offer technical tours to the Israel - Egypt and Israel - Jordan boundaries; to the research tunnel at Mount Amram; to the copper mines of Timna; and to the City of Eilat. They will all be most interesting, not only from professional, but also from tourist point of view.

The tours offered before, during and after the conference, will permit the participants to taste the tourist attractions of Israel, many of them important to Christians, Moslems and Jews, from the Northern areas of the country of Accre and Nazareth, the Sea of Galilee and Beit Shaan, through the centre of the three religions in Jerusalem, through the Judean Desert, the Dead Sea, the breathtaking Metzada down to Eilat and to Petra, in Jordan. All the mentioned sites and many others, draw many tourists from all over the world, amongst them the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI will visit Israel the week after FIG Working Week 2009.
