FIG publish each month a paper called the Article of the Month on their web site. These high level papers focus on interesting topics to all surveyors. The Article of the Month in April 2010 was "Spatially Enabled Government in New South Wales, Australia". It is written by Warwick Watkins AM and Dr. Pedro Harris from Australia. This paper is based on the keynote presentation of Warwick Watkins, Surveyor General of New South Wales, which was presented at the 2nd plenary session on Spatially Enabled Society at the FIG Congress 2010 in Sydney.
FIG Congress 2010 - Facing the Challenges – Building the Capacity, Sydney, Australia, 11-16 April 2010
The XXIV FIG Congress was successfully carried through and had more than 2,200 participants from 100 countries. The Sydney Convention Centre swarmed with people from all over the world in festive and colourful dresses who participated in the more than 150 technical session, plenary sessions, and flash sessions with about 800 presentations and throughout the exhibition hall with many interesting exhibitors.

FIG General Assembly 2010 elected new FIG President for 2011-12014, 2 Vice Presidents, appointed Chairs of all FIG Commission and decided on the venue for FIG 2014
Main decisions of the FIG General Assembly in Sydney included the election of the new FIG President and two Vice Presidents for 2011-2014. At its meeting 16 April 2010, the FIG General Assembly elected Teo CheeHai from Malaysia as the new FIG President for the period 2011-2014. At a very tight election Teo CheeHai won Matt Higgins from Australia and Iain Greenway from United Kingdom.
Dr.Chryssy Potsiou and Prof. Rudolf Staiger were each elected for Vice Presidents for 4 years (2011 - 2014) and Dr. Dalal Alnaggar for the remaining two-year period that was left from Teo CheeHai (2011-2012).
At a voting on the venue for the FIG Congress 2014 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia won over Istanbul, Turkey.
The General Assembly accepted new member associations from Albania, Benin, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cyprus and Nepal, ten new affiliates and several other members in FIG.
Pedro Cavero, Paul van der Molen and Helge Onsrud were appointed to Honorary Members.
