European Navigation Event 2008

European Navigation Event 2008

The fourth edition of the European Navigation Event takes place on 7/8 October

This fourth edition, organised by Jakajima, comprises a two-day seminar, a two-day exhibition and a one-day rally, and will take place at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven.

The previous three editions of the Navigation Event have proved that the PND market has progressed from navigation from A to B, to location and information for the user.

Now that the mobile phone with GPS and the PND with GSM have made their entrance, the user’s location has become a new source of information.

This will be discussed in detail during the seminar at this two day event. The exhibition will support this with stands, and you will be able to experience it yourself during the rally.

Speakers from the following companies have already agreed to be present; Media Markt, RIM (Blackberry), Journey Dynamics (UK), Spotigo (Germany, Spain), Skyhook Wireless (USA), GfK (Benelux), Microsoft, Mapscape, KPN, Orange, The Saints-Content Creators (NL), Telematica Institute / NTT Docomo (NL/Germany), Jentro Technologies (Germany), Nokia, Nederland Breedband Land, TNO, NXP, Urban Mapping (USA), Gypsii (NL), NAVX (France), Toll Collect GmbH (Germany), Mapflow (Ireland), GPS Buddy (Belgium) and many others.

Exhibition

There will be an exhibition which will run parallel to the seminar. This will remain open until 21:00 giving you access to the latest information even after the end of the working day.

Admission to the exhibition is free to anyone professionally connected with navigation, travel, the motor industry, government authorities, etc. You will however need to register in advance via the site.

Seminar visitors have free entry to the exhibition hall.

Registration

Nowhere else can you learn so much in such a short time about the navigation/location sector as at this seminar. You can register for just one or for both days of the seminar.

So go to www.navigatieevent.com, make your selection and register yourself.

The international GPS navigation rally, 4th edition, 7 October

This rally is a combination of a traditional rally and the modern technology that GPS has to offer.

The rally will be held on Tuesday 7 October 2008. Maries Dinaux and Eric van Straaten will give the starting signal, and will ensure that both the experienced rally driver and the beginner are well catered for. By using GPS and mobile internet, the traditional route manual will differ in several aspects.

The Purpose of the Rally

This rally comprises two contests; the normal competition between the rally teams plus a competition among the various navigation systems being used. The rally teams will therefore receive a navigation system for each stage of the rally, which they must then use and asses.

During the awards ceremony not only will the winning teams, but also the best tested and judged navigation systems receive prizes.

The route

The rally will be held in the Dutch regions of South-East Brabant and Gelderland and also in Germany. This area lends itself perfectly to adventure, excitement, competition and rally driving. A good balance between the new and the traditional methods of map reading and driving will be included in the route. There will be a distinction between the sporting and touring classes. The touring class route will be simpler and shorter than that of the sports class.

Start and finish

The starting point will be the testing centre of the TNO, right in the middle of the High Tech Automotive Campus in Helmond.

The finish is an equally prestigious location, nothing less than the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven where a seminar and exhibition will be held.

The first participant will start at 09:00. Document control will begin at 08:00.

Winning navigation systems

The following suppliers won previous events;

- 2007 Garmin and Nokia (editorial prize)

- 2006 Becker and Route 66 (editorial prize)

- 2005 TomTom and Mio (editorial prize)
