EuroSDR Workshop on National 3D Geoportals

EuroSDR Workshop on National 3D Geoportals – 2nd Call for Participation

21st of September 2009, FHNW, Muttenz/Basel

The 1st EuroSDR Workshop on ‘National 3D Geoportals - Research Issues, Applications, Quality and Legal Issues’ will be held on the 21st of September 2009 at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland in Muttenz/Basel (Switzerland). The workshop is organised as part of the EuroSDR Project on Virtual Globes.

This workshop, organised by EuroSDR and the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland FHNW, deals with Virtual 3D Globes, emerging 3D National Geospatial Data Infrastructures (3D NGDIs) and existing and future National 3D Geoportals. The aim of the workshop is to assemble experts from throughout Europe to identify and discuss some of the core issues, to provide for an exchange between experienced users and interested parties and to raise the awareness among scientists and industry representatives for NMCA's demands and requirements with respect to Virtual 3D Globes and National 3D Geoportals.

Topics of the workshop include scientific, technical, operational and legal aspects of (future) national 3D geoportals:

* Quality and up-to-dateness of national 3D geoportals

* Reliability / credibility of national 3D geoportals

* Applications, application domains and potential user groups

* Geospatial collaboration based on 3D geoportals

* Organisational and operational issues

There will be presentations from leading 3D experts from NMCAs (e.g. from IGN on géoportail.fr), industry (e.g. Google and ERDAS) and academia. The workshop will also feature discussion sessions on different key topics. This part of the programme is still open for short presentations and we encourage an active participation of EuroSDR members.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Muttenz

Stephan Nebiker and Eberhard Gülch
Co-Chairs of the EuroSDR Project on Virtual Globes

P.S. For questions relating to the workshop programme and for short contributions please contact the Workshop Coordinator Susanne Bleisch (susanne.bleisch@fhnw.ch)
