7 April 2010 - Brussels move puts voice of NMCAs at the heart of Europe. From 1 May 2010, EuroGeographics' head office will be based at 76 rue du Nord, 1000 Brussels.
The move brings the voice of national mapping, land registry and cadastral agencies closer to the ears of the European Institutions. It follows nearly a decade of growth and organisational development during which the association and its members have contributed their expertise to a wide range of European initiatives.
Dorine Burmanje, President of EuroGeographics explains: "Geospatial information is of fundamental importance in understanding and helping to solve many societal and environmental issues. Crime, for example, can be tackled more effectively when its pattern is mapped and using geospatial reference information in conjunction with information collected from space helps us to see the impact of climate change. Issues such as the protection of the soil on which our food production relies, the availability of mortgage funds for transactions across national boundaries and many other facets of modern life are much better understood, monitored and managed when we take "where" into account as well as what, how, why and when."
"Relocating our operations to Brussels is pivotal to our aim of ensuring that the role and benefit of our members' authoritative and definitive geospatial information is well understood by policy makers and those delivering services for Europe. As our members' eyes and ears in the European Commission and Parliament, it will also enable us to ensure they can continue to contribute to key policy developments, initiatives and projects."
Dave Lovell, Executive Director of EuroGeographics, adds: "The six staff that make up our head office team are deliberately distributed around Europe in order to keep us in close contact with our 53 members in 43 countries. In this way we are able to understand the issues and dynamics of such a large geographically and culturally diverse community. Operating from offices in Brussels will ensure that we can continue to provide objective and constructive support to the EC, Parliament and institutions of Europe but do so more quickly, efficiently and effectively."
EuroGeographics' new address will be 76 rue du Nord, 1000 Brussels. Its website and email addresses will remain the same. Telephone numbers will appear on the web site in the next few weeks.

Adopting Cloud computing can save money, but good governance is essential to manage the risk argues Mike Small
