15 September 2008, Aylesbury – ESRI (UK) today announced the conference speaker programme for this year’s EMEA Education User Conference. Taking place in London on 26-28 October 2008 at London’s QEII Conference Centre, delegates from 60 countries will attend sessions covering all aspects of using GIS within the education sector.
Renowned figures from the industry including The Royal Geographical Society and The Institute of Education will be speaking at this year’s conference. Various keynote presentations, hands-on workshops and panel discussions will be aimed at growing the educational community of GIS users and give delegates the chance to learn about the latest developments in using GIS to enhance learning at all levels.
Speakers include:
· Professor David Rhind, ex-president of City University in London and Chief Executive of Ordnance Survey – ‘Fixing the world’s problems through GIS: the crucial role of education’
· Professor Joop van der Schee, Free University Amsterdam, – ‘Geographical awareness, teacher training and inquiry learning’
· Steve Brace, Royal Geographical Society , UK – ‘GIS: the geography classroom and beyond’
· Julian Swindell, Royal Agricultural College, UK, – ‘trends in European GIS Education’
· Liz Taylor, University of Cambridge – ‘The CamGIS project: seeking to embed GIS in geographical learning’
· Basiouni Abdulrahman, University of Bahrain – ‘GIS in teaching economic geography’
· Josef Gspurning, IGR, Austria – ‘The Fusion of GIS and regular education in Geography and Economics’
