ESRI Web Seminar on Caches for Map Services

Redlands, California—Do you want your online maps to run faster?

ESRI will show you how to accomplish this during a complimentary demonstration-driven Web seminar this month that will focus on caching strategies with ArcGIS Server 9.3 software.

The live training seminar Implementing and Optimizing ArcGIS Server Map Caches will air on ESRI's Training and Education Web site at www.esri.com/lts on August 28, 2008, at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 3:00 p.m. (Pacific daylight time).

When a map cache is created, the server draws the complete map at several different scales and stores copies of the images. The server can then distribute the stored images when a request for a map comes in. This practice of rapidly serving maps using pregenerated images has become a standard for Web 2.0 mapping applications.

The presenters will demonstrate how to

· Design a map that will be cached.

· Select the cache tiling scheme and properties.

· Generate the most important tiles and leave the others to be cached on demand.

· Strategically update caches as source data changes.

· Prepare a cache for a Google Maps or Microsoft Virtual Earth mashup.

This seminar is geared toward ArcGIS Server users who want to improve the performance of their online maps. Some familiarity with ArcGIS Server is helpful but not required.

A broadband Internet connection and an ESRI Global Account are needed to watch the seminar. Creating a global account is easy and free; visit www.esri.com/lts, click Login, and register your name and address. A few weeks after the live presentation, the seminar will be archived and available for viewing on the ESRI Training and Education Web site.
