ESRI Data and GIS Empower Miami Businesses

Redlands, California—February 23, 2010—The City of Miami, Florida's Division of Economic Initiatives recently launched its geographic information system (GIS)-based Web site www.Miami-Sites.com. ESRI business partner MSF Global Solutions, LLC, built the online mapping application to give business leaders around the globe an easy-to-use resource with valuable site, market, and demographic information.

"We wanted to deliver one place where entrepreneurs could find reliable intelligence," said Lisa S. Mazique, senior advisor for economic development, City of Miami. "To make sure that we were adding features and attributes that were important to us, we wanted our own tool, not a cookie-cutter solution. And it had to wrap around a really solid data product."

Creating a customized Web site tailored specifically for the city was a top priority. To do that, MSF Global used its Site Intelligence Tool and ESRI's ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, and the ESRI Business Analyst Online API to build the application and reporting capabilities. On the Web site, visitors can

· Access up-to-date satellite imagery.

· Search the city's database of available commercial properties according to many factors such as property type, square footage, and price.

· Discover layers of information including zoning, contamination sites, land use, and historic/conservation.

· Create reports with detailed demographic data including income, housing, market, and spending profiles.

"It will give you a profile of the kind of individuals that live in a neighborhood and help you match your business to a particular market," Mazique said. "For a business to be successful, it needs to understand the backyard in which it's playing."
