ERDAS and GeoEye Rock Australia

Norcross, GA —Recently, ERDAS hosted its first ERDAS Rocks World Tour event in Australia. Partnering with GeoEye for this event, there were over 80 local users in attendance. Attendees came from various sectors with geospatial interests, including land agencies and local governments, as well as mining, oil and gas, photogrammetry, water resources, environment and health organizations.

In addition to promoting the overall software release, the Perth event sought to specifically address the needs of the former ER Mapper customers, many of whom work around the ERDAS office in Perth. In 2007, ERDAS acquired ER Mapper.

“The meeting was well attended and demonstrated the diversity of our user community,” said Steve de Plessis, Business Development Manager, ERDAS. “Many ERDAS ER Mapper users were excited about the potential for a combined ERDAS ER Mapper and ERDAS IMAGINE super-product, and look forward to ongoing developments in future releases.”

In addition to discussing integration developments between ERDAS IMAGINE and ERDAS ER Mapper, the fusion of Image Web Server with ERDAS APOLLO was also highlighted at this event. During the ERDAS APOLLO demonstration, the audience was amazed at the speed that both imagery and vectors were served. As an ERDAS partner, GeoEye also shared information on using half-meter GeoEye-1 satellite imagery.

“The presentations were solid and succinct, not missing a beat with tag team efficiency,” said Russ Teede, Data Analyst, Landgate. “The presenters knew their material well and this showed in the fast paced, clear and thorough display of the what-where-how of the new ERDAS 2010 and its integrated software. Their enthusiastic show of its capability suggests that the only limits that exist for this software are what the users want to see. I can't wait to test the grunt of these new tools for my own job needs.”

In late 2009, ERDAS announced its ERDAS Rocks World Tour to promote the 2010 Software Release and provide an opportunity for users to experience the power and excitement of this significant release locally. Many of the ERDAS Rocks events have drawn large crowds, also capturing the attention of the industry media. Last month, the ERDAS Rocks event in Gurgaon, India had over 475 attendees.
