Hadley, MA 01035, USA - Goldin-Rudahl Systems Inc. is pleased to announce that Dragon/ips Version 6.0 Professional Edition is now shipping.
Dragon has long been familiar to educators the world over as a high-quality, low-cost software package for teaching principles of remote sensing and GIS. With systems installed in more than 40 countries and availability in half-a-dozen languages, the Dragon Academic Edition has trained an estimated 25,000 geographers, geologists, and landscape architects.
However, the specifications for Dragon Academic Edition were deliberately chosen to match the needs of teaching. Very fast execution, highly intuitive interaction, and the ability to run on very low-capacity computers limited processing abilities to fairly small data sets. Most operations were restricted to images which could be shown in full resolution on a computer screen.
Responding to frequent requests for extended capabilities, Goldin-Rudahl Systems has introduced the Dragon Professional Edition. Dragon Professional continues all of the traditional qualities of Dragon, but with the added ability to process images of almost unlimited size.
"The big challenge for Dragon Professional was not in processing the large images, but in how the user would interact with them", according to Kurt Rudahl, chief software architect for Goldin-Rudahl Systems. "Dragon Academic assumes that the user will always see their entire data set in full resolution. This is clearly not possible with an 8000 x 8000 image. Dragon Professional required creation of entirely new user interactions which both show the complete data set, and also permit selecting points at maximum resolution."
Mr. Rudahl also noted that Dragon Professional includes the Dragon Programmer's Toolkit, allowing those with C/C++ programming abilities to implement their own specialized image processing or data import/export functions for use with Dragon. The programmer's Toolkit is an added-cost option for the Academic Edition.
Goldin-Rudahl Systems offers both the Professional Edition and the Academic Edition either as single copies, or with very steep discounts in a variety of site license configuration. For details, visit our web site or send email to dragon6.0@rsgis.net
