Dr. M K Munshi joins GIS Development

Renowned professional of the geospatial domain, Dr. M K Munshi, has joined GIS Development as the Dean of GIS Institute, the research and education arm of the global media company.

GISDevelopment is a global geospat ial media company that also imparts t raining and educat ion to students and professionals on geospat ial technologies and conducts research projects for various private and government agencies under its GIS Institute brand.

Prior to j oining GIS Development , Dr. Munshi worked as Senior Execut ive Director (Defence Solutions) at Rolta India Ltd for almost two decades. He was involved in the marketing, implementation and support of Mapping / Geospatial solutions and services in key organizations of the Central and State Governments and was also involved in strategic overseas mapping projects.

Dr. Munshi began his career as an Officer of the Corps of Engineers, Indian Army and seconded the Survey of India (the National Mapping Agency) in 1967. Dr. Munshi has been instrumental in establishing national
specifications for aerial photography for mapping / resources survey and the National Natural Resources Management System (NNRMS) program of the Government of India. He also served as a Consultant at Air Survey Company, the only private company engaged in aerial photography/ airborne remote sensing data acquisition for various organizations of the Government of India from 1985 - 89.

Dr. Munshi completed his Bachelors in Civil Engineering from University of Calcutta in 1964 and PhD. from IIT Delhi in 1984. He also completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Aerial Photography from ITC, The Netherlands. He is a cert ified Photogrammetrist of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote
Sensing (ASPRS). His other trainings include training on “Green Building Rating System” and ‘Carbon Foot printing’ and ‘Creating a Carbon Culture' Oxford ,UK , Sept ‘08 On the occasion, Dr. Munshi said, “I have been associated with GISDevelopment for almost a decade as an exhibitor/ participant at their annual events. I am now happy to work with them towards the proliferation of GIS technology in the areas / organizations which are yet to leverage the power of the technology in their respective businesses.”
