Direct access to terabytes of satellite images

Over the 20-year period of operations on the remote sensing data market ScanEx RDC has significantly improved access to satellite images in Russia. A network of «UniScan™» ground receiving stations of ScanEx Center daily receives raw data from 15 satellites at middle and high resolution (up to 0.7 m) covering the territory of Russia and some CIS countries. An archive of dozens of terabytes of data has already been collected as a result, containing images of world leading RS operators.

Successfully developing geoportal technology over the past few years, ScanEx specialists plan to make access to geodata even more democratic using the Web GeoMixer API software interface, created by ScanEx. It will provide a user-friendly and legal access to basically all the archives of satellite images of ScanEx Center, including the possibility to create own commercial products on its basis.

The new development of ScanEx will enable to get access to spatial data using two methods:

1. Loading multispectral imagery data into the user environment with the possibility of display, editing and creation of own commercial products on its basis without violations of license terms of the RS Operators.

2. Embedding maps into web-sites of users with the possibility of calling out different sets of spatial data layers. It will be enough only to specify the name of the set of layers (maps). Thus, several maps collected from different layers will be displayed on one site page.

The first method of access to commercial data is good for those working in GIS. The second one will be convenient, when operating with web applications. The user does not have to pay the overall cost of satellite data. Services for connection to the server are paid as a subscription, which final cost is defined based on the number of connected workstations, period of using and total available area.

Scanex Web GeoMixer API software interface will be available to every user by summer this year.

More information about the geoportal technology innovations, in particular about the Scanex Web GeoMixer API service, will be represented by ScanEx specialists on April 21-23 within the frames of the fifth International Special Exhibition and the Scientific Congress “GEO-SIBERIA-2009” (Novosibirsk), as well as on April 21-24 during the 10th Anniversary International Forum and Exhibition “High Technologies of XXI century” (Moscow, EXPOCENTER complex).

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

A suggested new aspect for the New Generation of Digital Earth - Human behaviour and decision making

Based on harmonised methodology, survey on decision making mechanisms and identification of decision nodal points, monitoring and analysis of the socio-economic and environmental impact of power, the influence of human interest groups from local to global should be also part of the aspects in the new generation Digital Earth.
