DAT/EM Systems International announces the release of Version 4.3 for SUMMIT EVOLUTION™. SUMMIT EVOLUTION is the groundbreaking digital (softcopy) stereoplotter, and with this release reaches new heights of quality, functionality, and ease of use.
In this latest release, which is available at no cost to all users who have a current support contract, SUMMIT EVOLUTION is now bigger, faster, and better. “This marks a significant step forward in the continued growth of SUMMIT EVOLUTION as the most user-friendly program on the market today,” says Robert Bredlie, Chief Software Engineer at DAT/EM. “The software makes accurate 3D measurement capability accessible to non-traditional users, and helps to make traditional photogrammetrists and map compilers more productive than ever.”
Among the many new features and product improvements, this upgrade and maintenance release adds additional support for the Leica Geosystems ADS40 sensor with the new ADS40 toolkit, new 3D visualization options, and an improved ability to generate LiDAR images from LiDAR points.
SUMMIT EVOLUTION’s strengths as a 3D digitizing and visualization workstation have been enhanced with the new 3D Super/Imposition (3DSI) window. Elevations of structures measured with the Summit Evolution stereoplotter may now be viewed as extruded 3D features in all three of the “flavors” supported by DAT/EM Capture™ (AutoCAD®, MicroStation®, and ArcGIS®). Multiple 3D extrusions may be combined to digitize precise renditions of buildings and other structures, and thereby build a realistic 3D cityscape. Build a terrain dataset from the DTM and one can build true orthoimages; the result may be viewed from oblique, vertical, or subterranean angles in the 3DSI window.
The growth of LiDAR capabilities continues in version 4.3 of Summit Evolution with the significant enhancement of image generation from LiDAR data. Monoscopic or pseudo-stereo pairs may be built from LiDAR elevation files, colorized using intensity, elevation data, or both. The results may be used for accurate vector feature collection in the stereoplotter interface.
A number of other enhancements based on incident reports and user requests were implemented at v4.3. Version 4.3 has been compiled specifically for Windows 2000 and XP.
Release 4.3 is compatible with the following CAD versions:
o AutoCAD: R14, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
o MicroStation: MicroStation V8 and 2004 Edition
o ArcGIS: ArcMap 9.1 and 9.2
The focus of DAT/EM Systems International on user connectivity has led to such innovative components as the realtime Terrain Visualizer, Bird’s-Eye overview, full DiAP import, and the recent hit product Summit Evolution “Lite”. Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.What message are we sending to senior level decision makers about the importance and value of Spatial Data Infrastructure - SDI - if we keep misrepresenting what SDI is or is all about?
In previous editorials in this magazine I have touched on various SDI issues, especially now that the pan-European SDI has achieved a legally mandated status within the European Union's 27 Member States. Yet I fear that the Geographic Information community - or communities, for there are many - continue to… More…
