Cross Atlantic Workshop on Economic Value of Geoinformation - GeoValue ´09

Motivation and Research Area

The main goal of the workshop is to bring researchers interested in value of geoinformation together. It aims at exchanging experiences and knowledge in this area fostering the discussion on the issues of pricing policy in the new Europe and across Atlantic. New economic models are needed which would enable to model and analyse the value of geoinformation in a geoinformation chain.

Existing neoclassical models are not appropriate because of their unrealistic assumptions of the buyer who is perfectly informed about the product or service and their ignorance of transaction costs. Transaction costs are an important issue in modelling geoinformation value chain and estimation of the value of geoinformation to the buyer.

Value of geoinformation as perceived by the buyer depends on variety of factors and the specifics of the decision making process in which it has been used. This workshop explores value of geoinformation in a geoinformation chain, possible economic models that could be applied in modelling the geoinformation value chain, the relation of value and price of geoinformation and co-dependency of value and quality of geoinformation.

These issues are becoming even more important in the united new Europe and represent foundations for collaborations with countries from other continents.

Participants will have an opportunity to discuss issues related to geoinformation value chain, transaction cost and its estimation, value of data quality, and quality of a decision making process.

Topics

This special workshop will encourage researchers in geoinformation science, artificial intelligence, spatial data and information quality, economy and other related
disciplines to discuss the research challenges related to the value of geoinformation. Topics that will be covered include the following:

• Value of data quality
• Value of geoinformation quality
• Measuring the information and decision quality
• Geoinformation value chain
• Geoinformation product differentiation
• Transaction cost and its estimation
• Methodologies for measuring other direct and indirect impacts of geoinformation

Type of contribution:

We invite researchers from academia or research labs to present their research or research-in-progress papers. Prospective presenters submit a regular research or
research-in-progress in the form of an extended abstract.

• The submissions in the form of an extended abstract should not exceed 1.500 words and should include the names of the authors, email addresses and the corresponding institutions.

• The extended abstracts should be submitted in a *.doc and *.pdf format to the following e-mail address: geovalue@ymail.com.

• All extended abstract will be reviewed by external reviewers leading to a decision of acceptance or rejection.

• The extended abstract selected for a presentation will be presented by the authors at the GeoValue ´09 workshop on June 2nd in Hannover.

• All selected extended abstracts will be published in an electronic publication.

• The authors of the accepted extended abstract will be invited to submit an article to a special issue of the International Journal of Spatial Data Infrastructures Research.
