Complete coverage of Moscow with 2008 VHR imagery

Complete coverage of Moscow with 2008 VHR imagery

2008-05-20 - EROS B image fragment, acquired on April 25, 2008, Moscow-City Center On April 25, 2008 ScanEx specialists acquired the complete coverage of Moscow with EROS B satellite imagery at 0.7 m resolution. The received images are highly valued due to the absence of foliage and snow, thus enabling to study the city infrastructure in most efficient way. Due to high onboard imaging equipment output the entire area of the capital of over 3 000 km2 was covered within two passes only. The satellite also captured the images of the following spring-time Russian towns: Saratov, Engels, Neftekamsk, Naberezhnye Chelny, Inta and western districts of Ufa.

The imaging efficiency is linked directly to the possibilities of the new EROS B service – EPOD (Exclusive Pass On Demand), enabling to task the imaging only several hours prior to the pass, which fact dramatically increases the probability of getting cloud-free images. Until recently, image tasking was available only with 36-hours minimum advance notice for rush and 48-hours notice for standard imaging modes. Now this advance notice period is reduced to 6 hours.

The unique EROS B satellite programming technology available now to all the users in Russia and CIS enables both to more efficiently carry out the projects, requiring reception and processing of data in near real-time mode, and to do regular imaging of areas and linear objects (main pipelines, highways, railways, etc.).

ScanEx R&D Center encourages everybody to use the new option of quick image tasking in the upcoming imaging season. We look forward to receiving your requests at: +7 (495) 739-7385 or by e-mail: sales@scanex.ru.

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

What message are we sending to senior level decision makers about the importance and value of Spatial Data Infrastructure - SDI - if we keep misrepresenting what SDI is or is all about?

In previous editorials in this magazine I have touched on various SDI issues, especially now that the pan-European SDI has achieved a legally mandated status within the European Union's 27 Member States. Yet I fear that the Geographic Information community - or communities, for there are many - continue to… More…
