Cadcorp announces new release of mSIS mobile

Stevenage and London, UK, 26 June, 2008. – Digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software developer Cadcorp has announced a new release of its mSIS - mobile Spatial Information System (‘mSIS’) product. mSIS is an easy-to-use field data capture application for the Pocket PC platform. It is supplied in two parts: a desktop based project management package - mSIS Office; plus the Pocket PC-based data capture software - mSIS Mobile.

In addition to offering significant improvements in performance for both the Office and Mobile platforms, the new release gives users the ability to trim or ‘cookie-cut’ overlays, including OS MasterMap®, for use on the PDA. This gives mobile users easy access to the data they need for the task in hand, rather than having to carry a large data overhead.

Attribute handling has been significantly improved for both simple and XML schemas, via the extended 'automatic' and 'mandatory' field functionality which reduces the possibility of user error and speeds up the data capture process. The new version supports the creation of lightweight GeoTIFF images that can be used as a backdrop on the mobile device and also has enhanced data transfer between the Mobile and Office programs.

Mike O’Neil, managing director, Cadcorp, commented, “The new version of Cadcorp mSIS offers a vast improvement in overall functionality and OS MasterMap handling, which will greatly enhance the productivity of mobile data capture users”.

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

What message are we sending to senior level decision makers about the importance and value of Spatial Data Infrastructure - SDI - if we keep misrepresenting what SDI is or is all about?

In previous editorials in this magazine I have touched on various SDI issues, especially now that the pan-European SDI has achieved a legally mandated status within the European Union's 27 Member States. Yet I fear that the Geographic Information community - or communities, for there are many - continue to… More…
