Blue Marble Users Conference Well Attended

Gardiner, Maine- September 25, 2009 - Blue Marble Geographics held their first Users Conference at the Marriott Westchase in Houston, TX on September 17th. The show was well attended by surveyors and geodesists from a variety of industries and companies from around the world. The oil and gas exploration industry was well represented with teams from all of the major production and exploration companies. Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software companies, universities, oil and gas companies, civil engineering, surveying, technology, enterprise GIS groups, government and military organizations.

Patrick Cunningham, Blue Marble President, played host and MC. He presented opening remarks that laid the groundwork for the theme of the day “customer driven development.” Cunningham discussed how Blue Marble designs and develops their products based on customer feedback pointing to the product releases over the past five years with such examples as GeoCalc moving to an object oriented - XML based datasource, the release of the Blue Marble desktop to provide for file translation of all types within the Geographic Calculator workflow, the ESRI extension and Spatial database support.

The theme continued with customer talks and demonstrations from Blue Marble users David Hart (El Paso Corporation) and Kay Sutter (Seismic Micro). Both speakers enlightened the audience with workflow examples and time saving techniques they use daily for desktop and developer tools respectively. Chief Technology Officer, Victor Minor presented a talk “Five Things You May Not Know You Can Do with GeoCore” and Product Manager, Sam Knight spoke on the newest addition to the Blue Marble Toolkit, Spatial Connect and the projection recovery tool. He illustrated how to improve the typical Calculator workflow through automation and the ESRI extension. The conference ended with a lively feedback session driven by customer questions and suggestions. Attendees were also rewarded with various door prizes drawn throughout the day.

“We were really pleased with the turnout for our first event of this type,” stated Cunningham. “We’ve held user group meetings in the past, but this was the first user conference. We are delighted with the constructive and positive feedback we received.”
