Blue Marble President on Risk Management

Gardiner, Maine – May 15, 2009 - Blue Marble Geographics is pleased to announce that Patrick Cunningham, President at Blue Marble, will host a talk at TechMaine on Risk Management and the Decision to Ship in the software release cycle, Wednesday June 3rd at 6pm at the TechMaine offices in Westbrook Maine. The talk is for the quality assurance and testing group of TechMaine but is free and open to the public. TechMaine is a Maine based software industry group that hosts talks on a wide range of subjects.

Cunningham will address the challenges software companies face in determining when a software product is actually ready to ship. Every software shop has to define their own level of quality in order to feel confident that their offering will be successful. This is a process based both on art and science. The team has to assess the risks associated with any release. Articulating, quantifying and measuring risk throughout the release cycle is essential to assure success with every software version. Without extensive planning the results can be disastrous for product and company alike, not to mention the impact on the employees that are leading the project. These challenges, outlined by Cunningham in his talk will be addressed through real world examples of what works and what does not. Cunningham will pull from his experience with a variety of software companies in a variety of states from venture backed to completely profit funded.

”The decision to ship has to be grounded on a plan for success,” states Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham. “Articulating the components, the goals of your release, clearly is in invaluable step. But there are many factors that influence your likelihood for a successful launch. It is the essential challenge of any technology or software company. I am looking forward to sharing my insights on that with TechMaine members.”
