Blue Marble Desktop's INSPIRE Capabilities

Gardiner, Maine – November 7, 2008 - Blue Marble Geographics recently concluded a trip to Ireland and the United Kingdom during which the company focused on their recently released Blue Marble Desktop and their extensive support for both common and challenging coordinate transformation tasks key to working with INSPIRE. Time in the UK was spent at the ESRI EMEA conference with representatives from countries across Europe. Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software companies, universities, oil and gas companies, civil engineering, surveying, technology, enterprise GIS groups, government and military organizations.

The Blue Marble Desktop is driven by a common, comprehensive geodetic data source, GeoCalc.XML the largest commercially available coordinate conversion library, which includes many new administrative and workflow tools to assist users with streamlining their data transformation processes while ensuring accuracy and data quality. The new project manager allows GIS professionals to construct a variety of geospatial conversion workspaces and share them with other users, improving efficiency and reducing errors.

In relation to INSPIRE, the greatest benefit of the Blue Marble Desktop is its wide-ranging support for coordinate systems local to a variety of European countries. From Ireland and the UK to the Netherlands and Italy, from Romania to Sweden and Norway, the Geographic Calculator natively supports these definitions as well as a variety of datum conversions, from simple shifts to complex polynomial transformations. No other translation software has this type of extensive support.

“We are very focused on supporting the various data translation and compatibility challenges of INSPIRE,” states Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham. “We are certainly able to handle any coordinate transformation problem and we are actively expanding the software to better address data format issues as well.”
