Blom CGR, the Italian subsidiary of Blom, has been awarded a NOK 38 million contract by the Italian Ministry of Environment, for a new LiDAR project in Italy. The contract is expected to be signed within the next two weeks, with start-up of project during fourth quarter 2009. The project is expected to be completed within 3rd quarter 2011.
The project includes laser scanning, using LiDAR technology, to create a terrain and surface model of an area in Italy totaling 15.650 km². In addition, the project includes implementation of a data management system. The collected data and model will be used to monitor environmental impact of environmental crimes. The information will be utilized by the Italian Ministry of Environment, the Italian Ministry of Defense and several local Italian governments.
“This agreement is a further confirmation that our services maintain high professional and technological level, and it is a further recognition of the expertise we represent“, says Giovanni Banchini, Chairman and Managing Director Blom CGR S.p.A in Italy.
The project is consistent with the standards of the EU directive INSPIRE (INfrastructure for SPatial InfoRmation in Europe), whose aim is to stimulate the availability of environmental information in Europe. Blom has previously won similar contracts with the Italian Ministry of Environment.
