Berg Insight report on Mobile Navigation Services

Berg Insight, one of the partners of the Navigation and Location USA 2009 conference, has produced an Industry Research Whitepaper called "Distribution Channels for Mobile Navigation Services" which can be downloaded from the link below.

Their research has shown that today's customer is demanding navigation services which are integrated with other applications and services. The responsibility to provide this spans operators, handset vendors and service providers. Plus, the onset of "free" services mean it's even more important, throughout the value-chain, to deliver an enhance user-experience.

Key Findings:

- Some of the first integrated LBS and navigation offerings are about to become available from mobile operators including Vodafone and T-Mobile.

- Open sales channels, especially in Europe, mean handset vendors are focusing on applications and services as part of a complete offering to customers, and most have already introduced navigation services, like Nokia

- Service Providers have introduced branded navigation services that leverage their brands, especially in North America where service providers rely on co-operation with operators

- App Stores are key: Applications need a well implemented and easy to use delivery channel, hence the success of Apple's App Store. App Stores are revolutionary for developers who can now easily reach a mass market

- Berg Insight Forecasts more than half of all active users of navigation applications by 2015 will have downloaded the application from an on-device application store, and the majority of these will be marketed by third party service providers.
