19 March 2008 — Spatial data information systems developer and provider 1Spatial is to become a reseller of Autodesk infrastructure solutions AutoCAD Map 3D and Autodesk MapGuide, Autodesk announced today. Building on its recent acquisition of Proteus, Ireland and IME, Scotland, the highly regarded, UK-headquartered company is considered to be a world leader in the management of enterprise spatial databases and data quality control.
It believes that Autodesk products such as MapGuide add significant value to its back-end solutions, providing users with a seamless interface and making geospatial data easier to access and share across entire operations. Many of its customers around the world are already experiencing the benefits of this solution.
This latest move is in line with Autodesk’s plans to further build its channel network. This involves partnering with specific experts to develop customised applications based on its industry-leading design tools. It also follows a string of successful collaborations by Autodesk and 1Spatial in the local government, central government and utilities sectors. Here, combined solutions and accumulated expertise have delivered considerable efficiencies and return on investment.
With its headquarters in Cambridge, UK, offices in Belgium, Ireland, Norway and Scotland and customers across the globe, 1Spatial has extensive experience in providing operational solutions to organisations with large spatial databases, notably around spatial data integration and quality control. Like Autodesk, it has a strategy of forming affiliations with like-minded partners offering standards-based, flexible, open and interoperable solutions.
“By offering Autodesk solutions as part of our wider applications we are now able to use this expertise across the 1Spatial Group and give even more customers access to the best and most relevant geospatial knowledge-sharing tools. These will help streamline workflow and ensure the consistency and integrity of their geospatial data,” says Steven Ramage, key contact for the 1Spatial Community and business development director at 1Spatial.
Tracey Stone, Autodesk Geospatial sales manager Northern Europe, agrees: “We’re delighted that such a renowned firm such as 1Spatial has become a channel partner. We believe that our combined expertise, knowledge and solutions provide a powerful proposition for customers wanting to maximise the value of their geospatial data – and in particular, reap the benefits of the seamless integration of CAD and GIS.”

Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.What message are we sending to senior level decision makers about the importance and value of Spatial Data Infrastructure - SDI - if we keep misrepresenting what SDI is or is all about?
In previous editorials in this magazine I have touched on various SDI issues, especially now that the pan-European SDI has achieved a legally mandated status within the European Union's 27 Member States. Yet I fear that the Geographic Information community - or communities, for there are many - continue to… More…
